TOGETHER, LET'S TELL CONGRESS OUR #SENIORSCANTWAIT
No senior should have to wait for a hot meal, helping hand or friendly knock at the door. However, this is the unfortunate reality for tens of thousands of our nation’s most vulnerable seniors. It's up to all of us to help shine a light on this growing problem and to urge Congress to invest further in Older Americans Act Nutrition Programs, like Meals on Wheels.
Today, more than 10 million seniors – or one in six – struggle with hunger. At the same time, the nationwide Meals on Wheels network is serving nearly 23 million fewer meals than a decade ago due to declining federal and state grants, stagnant private funding, and rising costs. As Congress approaches its December 9 deadline to make final funding decisions for Fiscal Year 2017, it's critical that we come together in telling Congress to pass a nearly $14 million funding increase for Older Americans Act (OAA) Nutrition Programs, like Meals on Wheels, and strengthen the infrastructure that supports our seniors. The time to act is now.
