Meals on Wheels America is honored and humbled to be the recipient of a significant philanthropic gift from MacKenzie Scott. It represents the largest single unrestricted contribution our organization has ever received and is made even more extraordinary based on the reality that less than 2% of all philanthropic giving is directed to organizations that focus on the needs of seniors and/or aging.
Given the rapid growth of the senior population, this new gift enables investment in the capacity-building efforts needed to support and help scale our network’s ability to deliver life-saving services through the pandemic and beyond. This will allow us, as the leadership organization for the nationwide Meals on Wheels network, to meaningfully advance progress toward our vision of an America in which all seniors live more nourished lives with independence and dignity.
Additionally, 30 Meals on Wheels local programs were also fortunate beneficiaries of a gift.
“We all owe Mackenzie Scott an immense amount of gratitude for investing in organizations that are addressing issues pivotal to the health and wellbeing of our nation’s most vulnerable, especially at this time of unprecedented need,” said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO of Meals on Wheels America.
