STATEMENT ON PROPOSED HHS RULE ON NONDISCRIMINATION LAWS AND MEALS ON WHEELS COMMITMENT TO SERVING OUR NATION’S MOST VULNERABLE

Nov 07, 2019

Arlington, VA, November 7, 2019 – Following the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Proposed Rule to Align Grants Regulation with New Legislation, Nondiscrimination Laws, and Supreme Court Decisions, Meals on Wheels America’s Board of Directors and President and CEO Ellie Hollander released the following statement:

As the national leadership organization supporting the more than 5,000 community-based nutrition programs across the country and as executive directors of Meals on Wheels programs in CA, GA, IN, NJ, OK, PA and TX, we are unwavering in our vision of an America in which all seniors live nourished lives with independence and dignity. Toward that end, we are working every day to improve the health and quality of life of seniors in our communities so that no one is left hungry or isolated, and to ensure that no one is denied the services they need based on any form of discrimination.

Whether meals are provided in-home or in group settings, like senior centers, we are steadfast in our commitment to serve eligible seniors 60+ who are in the greatest social or economic need, regardless of disability, sex, race, color, national origin, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation. Senior hunger and isolation know no bounds.
