ARLINGTON, Va., January 13, 2025 – Meals on Wheels America’s Interim Chief Membership Officer, Jenny Young, today issued this statement regarding the Los Angeles wildfires:
Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating wildfires currently impacting the Los Angeles area. We also extend our support and gratitude to the brave first responders, and all others who are actively providing critical aid during this
crisis.
Community-based Meals on Wheels providers are often on the front lines during emergency situations, ensuring the older adults they serve are not only prepared for the worst and heeding precautionary orders, but also acting as an ongoing lifeline through
response and recovery. The crisis in Los Angeles is no exception and there are multiple Meals on Wheels providers that are working tirelessly to navigate service delivery disruptions caused by dangerous air quality, mandatory evacuations, power
outages and more, all while keeping client, staff and volunteer safety at the forefront. Times like these remind us that Meals on Wheels is so much more than just a meal service — it is a lifeline that helps maintain community resilience and
ensures no senior is left behind.
