While working at an event as a Meals on Wheels representative, a gentleman told me a story about his mother, who received Meals on Wheels because he and his siblings lived too far away to check on her every day. One day, his sister received a call from the program saying that their mother did not answer the door for her meal. His sister rushed to the house and it turned out that she had fallen. Luckily, she was found in time and has safely recovered and returned to her home. Had it not been for Meals on Wheels, she may not have survived. This was the moment that I truly understood the importance of Meals on Wheels—that it is more than just a meal, but also a lifeline and a safety check.
