I had the privilege of volunteering with Senior Services of Alexandria, VA last holiday season. In addition to making the regular delivery of one hot and one cold meal, I also delivered handmade festive flower arrangements to each of the seniors on the route. It was something small, but just being able to give a little holiday spirit was a really heartwarming touch. Although I was the one who had the honor of handing out the decorative centerpieces, it is really the volunteers who took the time to create and arrange these special touches who deserve all of the credit. Moments like this are what define and differentiate Meals on Wheels as so much more than just a meal service.
