URGE CONGRESS TO FUND, PROTECT AND
REAUTHORIZE THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT
Each March, the Meals on Wheels network celebrates March for Meals, a month-long campaign to raise awareness about this powerful public-private partnership and to celebrate the March 22 anniversary of signing into law a measure that established the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program. For more than 45 years, this vital legislation has authorized local Meals on Wheels programs to deliver congregate and home-delivered meals and other critical social support services to vulnerable seniors in virtually every community across the country.
Nine million seniors face the threat of hunger in our nation, while a quarter of all seniors live alone, making them susceptible to the detrimental health effects of loneliness and isolation. Now is the time to ensure that the cost-effective and exemplary public-private partnerships authorized through the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program are uplifted to support our rapidly growing aging population.
